Not every developer sets out with a clear map of where they'll land. Marta Suljagic didn't need one - programming caught her attention early on, and curiosity did the rest. That same instinct to look closer, to notice the detail everyone else skips past, is what she now brings to problem-solving at Loncom.
Who She Is Today
At Loncom, Marta is a Full Stack Developer, seven months into the role after starting out on a different team. Her day-to-day work is mainly in Node.js, but her real pull is toward machine learning and genetic algorithms, which she explores in Python whenever she gets the chance.
Tech Stack
The tools she works across day to day
| ✓ Node.js (day-to-day development) | ✓ Python (machine learning & genetic algorithms) |
| ✓ C (foundational background) | ✓ C# (foundational background) |
| ✓ Java (foundational background) | ✓ Power BI & data analysis |
The Road Here
Marta's interest in programming started young - by the time she was 12, she was already hooked. That early curiosity carried her through the IT school for talented children at SystemPro, and later through the Nikola Tesla Highschool for Electrical Engineering, where she trained as an IT technician.
Along the way, she picked up real-world experience early - working as a Backend Developer at Atom Data Services, teaching programming to children of various ages at SystemPro, and completing a Wordpress internship at Megatrend. She also placed 2nd in a regional "basics of electrical engineering" competition, and more recently completed a course in Applied AI in Biomedicine and Biophysics - a nod to where her curiosity is headed next.
Her academic background is in Computer Science, studied through Union University's Faculty of Computer Science - a natural continuation of a path that started with tinkering and never really stopped.
How She Thinks
Marta describes herself as an optimist, and it shows in how she works - she treats a hard problem as something interesting rather than something to dread. She's drawn to the details other people skip over, and much of her problem-solving comes down to spotting patterns before they become obvious. She's a team player at heart, always looking to bring - and hear - a fresh perspective.
"I like finding the pattern hiding in the mess - that's usually where the real problem is," Marta says.
What She's Looking Forward To
Marta is early in her journey at Loncom and already looking ahead - toward bigger projects, and toward bringing more of her machine learning interests into her day-to-day work. She's motivated by the momentum of a fast-growing team, and by the sense that there's always more to learn - which, to her, is exactly the point.
Beyond the Office
Outside of Loncom, Marta stays just as active in her downtime. A quick snapshot:
|
🎮
Gaming A long-standing favorite way to unwind |
🏃
Running Regularly, for the headspace as much as the exercise |
|
📖
Reading Always has something on the go |
🎲
Board Games Another outlet for her love of strategy and pattern-spotting |
When she's not deep in a project at work, there's a good chance she's a few levels into a game, a few pages into a book, or out for a run.
