Meet the Team: Djordje Momcilovic

Not every developer sets out to write business software. Djordje Momcilovic didn't - he wanted to build graphics. He ended up leading a development team instead, and it turns out that suits him just as well.

Who He Is Today

At Loncom, Djordje is a Software Engineer and Dev Team Lead. He joined just under two years ago as a Software Engineer and has since grown into leading the dev team, with two developers now reporting to him. He still writes a fair amount of code himself day to day, working across a stack that includes:

Tech Stack

The tools and platforms he works across day to day

JavaScript & TypeScript   React (Frontend)

Node.js (Backend)   SQL / Databases

HubSpot & CRM Platforms   AWS / Cloud

His main focus these days has shifted toward coordinating the team's work rather than just his own, and he's actively working on becoming a more effective lead as that responsibility grows.

A Day in the Life of a Dev Team Lead

Djordje splits his time roughly 50/50 between coding and coordinating, though it's rarely a clean split day to day. Daily team calls cover both hands-on problem-solving together and aligning on tasks and planning, alongside prepping for client meetings. On top of that, there's admin and coordination work woven in around his own solo coding time.

The Road Here

"I always had an interest and talent in art. Growing up with a computer at home since I can remember - my dad also works in IT - I naturally gravitated toward the middle point between those two things when it came to my career. I think I found that as a full-stack developer," Djordje says.

Djordje's path into software started with a creative streak. With a background in drawing and visual design, and a computer in the house for as long as he can remember, he went into Software Engineering wanting to combine that creative side with technology - specifically through graphics programming. He is currently completing his degree in Software Engineering.

Joining Loncom changed the direction of that plan. Instead of graphics, he found himself drawn to full-stack development - and two years on, that shift has taken him from writing code to leading the team that writes it.

A Project He's Proud Of

Ask Djordje for a project he's proud of, and he doesn't hesitate: a recruitment platform his team built from scratch for student-athletes looking to come to the UK to play and study. It guides students through the whole process, from applying to universities to giving them everything they need to actually move abroad and continue their studies and athletic careers.

Leadership Style: Hands-On, By Choice

Djordje's approach to leading is less about directing from a distance and more about staying in the work. He prefers to jump in and build alongside his team rather than only assigning tasks and reviewing results - a style that keeps him close to the technical detail while he grows into the people side of the role.

He's clear about what leading a team has taught him: no task is too difficult or impossible to solve. There's often time pressure, and dealing with clients isn't always easy, so keeping good discipline himself, staying organized, knowing when to ask for help, and knowing when to slow things down and defuse a stressful situation are things he's learned, and is still learning.

Why Loncom

Djordje heard about Loncom through a personal connection. What drew him in was the description of a fast-growing startup where he'd be thrown into real work from day one. He saw that as the best possible environment to learn as much as he could, as fast as possible - and it's a decision that's paid off, taking him from Software Engineer to Dev Team Lead in under two years.

What He Enjoys Most About the Work

  • Solving tricky technical problems - hard in the moment, satisfying once cracked
  • Building software that genuinely helps real clients and customers
  • Teamwork - even fully remote, collaborating with the team is the part he values most

"What I value most is the genuine connection we've built in a short amount of time. Even when we're fully focused on solving a problem, working with them feels more like working with friends I'm glad I get to work with, rather than just colleagues," Djordje says.

Looking Ahead

Over the next 6 to 12 months, Djordje is focused on two things in parallel: getting more deliberate about his leadership processes, and continuing to deepen his technical skills.

Beyond the Office

Outside of Loncom, Djordje splits his time between sports, languages, and a few casual creative interests. A quick snapshot:
